Old Road Women Demand Retraction of Insults from Rep Kolubah

MONROVIA: Amidst recent claims by Montserrado County District 10 Lawmaker, Yeked Kolubah, who is also an official of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC), that the Minister of Public Works designate, Ruth Coker-Collins, has unduly halted his ongoing construction in the Old Road Community and subsequently seized his 500 bags of cement, a group of women, under banner: “Concerned Women of Montserrado County Electoral District-#10” has taken issues with the Montserrado County Lawmaker.

Lawmaker Kolubah said the Public Works Minister designate is a loyalist of the Minister of State who has been operating at the behest of Presidential Affairs Minister, Nathaniel Falo McGill, who is also Chief of Office Staff for President George Manneh Weah.

Without addressing itself to the Lawmaker’s allegations against the Works Minister designate, the women group lambasted him for allegedly raining profanities against the
Works Minister.

Recently, Kolubah who was reportedly in session allegedly used several invectives against the Minister of Public Works designate, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, and linked her to ties with the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Mr. Nathaniel F. McGill.

Rep. Kolubah, said at the time, that the Public Works Minister designate boasted that the House of Representatives cannot reverse her decision or intervene because of her strong contact with the Executive Mansion.

However, the women group has condemned the action of the district’s Representative.

In a statement issued in Monrovia on Monday, May 23, 2022, the women called on Lawmaker Kolubah to retract his statement immediately or else they will begin moving from house to house, door to door and one market table to the other on the Old Road to canvass against him in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

The women said while they condemn Rep Kolubah as “abuser of women,” they are also taken aback by the conspicuous silence of the Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, who is also a resident of Old Road Community.

According to the women’s spokesperson, Madam Benenitta Ketoh, they signaled the Grand Bassa County Lawmaker as one of his (Kolubah’s) advisors.

The Women Group, at the same time, called on the Grand Bassa County female Senator to come public and condemn the statement made against their daughter, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, and distance herself from Kolubah’s insults against Coker-Collins.

“We the people of District #10 are not taking his statement likely, and we hope Senator Karngar-Lawrence will not do same; it’s time to stand up for women hand-in-hand no matter where we stand politically,” the group added.

According to members of the group, Senator Karngar-Lawrence’s failure to distance herself, and publicly condemn Rep. Kolubah, it would suggests that she is in full support of the public disgrace brought upon the women of Liberia.

The group also calls on the Alternative National Congress (ANC), of which Rep. Yekeh Kolubah is a member to condemn him and distance the party from “this women abuser” to indicate that the ANC is a party that respects women.

“We, at the same time, calling on the Coalition of Political Party Women (COPWILL) and women stakeholders to immediately distance themselves from the action of this District #10’s “failed Rep. Kolubah,” the statement noted.

The group pointed out in its statement that the insults rained on Minister Coker-Collins are not just about her but insults against the women of Liberia.

“Culturally the statement added, when you insult a girl child, you have insulted all women. Yes, the so-called Rep. Kolubah, as traditionally as he thinks of himself, has insulted the women of Liberia,” the group maintains.

Madam Ruth Coker-Collins is not just a Minister, but she hails from the Old Road community in Sinkor, schooled there, and even operated a business there and she is as well one of us, and by extension, the daughter of a market woman. Her humility, decency and upbringing are things we are very proud of, Old Road is very proud of this daughter of ours,” the statement added.
