VP Taylor Craves Collective Against SGBV

MONROVIA: Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has called for collective efforts in the fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in Liberia.

Madam Taylor who joined the campaign to ensure that SGBV is abolished underscores the need for community members, civil society actors and parents to work together to protect children.

The Vice President spoke recently in Monrovia, at the opening ceremony of a five-day sensitization workshop on enhancing the capacity of local community actors to prevent and respond to SGBV.
The workshop was organized by the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Center, in collaboration with the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) in Monrovia.

Also speaking at the occasion, Major General Francis Ofori, Commandant of the Center, said the workshop was aimed at enhancing the capacity of participants in responding to SGBV cases in Liberia.
He said:” It will also contribute to the promotion of peace and security in Liberia, as well as shaping the attitudes of community actors in the fight against SGBV.”

For her part, CRS Country Manager, Dr. Abena Amendorley, pledged her organization’s support to building the capacities of community actors in the fight against SGBV.
