MONROVIA: The Monrovia City Court has sent to prison (Monrovia Central Prison) a 40 year-old clergyman, identified as Abraham Benjamin, of the Christ Embassy for embezzling US$100,000 from his wife, Christian Singbah.
The defendant was arrested and investigated by the Liberia National Police, charged with the commission of the crime of misapplication of entrusted property, and theft of property upon receiving physical cash of US$100,000.00 through remittances from the complaint while she was in the United States of America (USA), to carry out a construction project, but the defendant converted same to his personal use.
The defendant was arrested on May 6, 2022, investigated, charged and forwarded to court, and subsequently placed on prisoner bench for over three hours, awaiting his commitment to be escorted to jail.
Police charge sheet revealed that upon the arrival of the complainant in Liberia, from the United States of America, she realized that her husband, Pastor Abraham Benjamin, did not spend the total amount of monies that were sent to him for the implementation of the project.
The complainant added that she shipped a 40-foot container, containing different kinds of commodities to Liberia in care of her husband, Pastor Benjamin, which, according to the complainant, was sold by the defendant who converted the proceeds to his personal use without the provision of any financial records of the transaction.
The complainant added that she also sent US$9,500.00 (Nine thousand Five Hundred) to her husband, defendant Benjamin to buy two acre of land, but again he failed to buy the land and siphoned the money to his personal use.
During the investigation, the complaint showed all of her records of all the monies that were sent to the defendant here in Liberia.
Police charge sheet indicated that coupled with the facts finding, and all of the record provided, it was established that the defendant committed the crimes of misapplication of entrusted property and theft of property, which are in violation of Chapter 15 Section 15:51&15:56 of the penal code of Liberia.
Meanwhile, the defendant has being forwarded to the prison facility as he awaits full trial.
