MONROVIA: The Comptroller and Accountant General Department of the Ministry of Finance Development Planning (MFDP) has launched a public awareness program called” Public Financial Management and You” with the objective to educate Liberians on the Public Financial Management activities of the country.
Speaking at the launching program held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), on Capitol Hill, the Comptroller and Accountant General of Liberia, Atty. Janga A. Kowo, said the program will highlight major ongoing reform activities at the Ministry of Finance Development Planning (MFDP), especially at the Comptroller and Accountant General Department.
Giving the overview of the program, Atty. Kowo, said the Liberian Government began the implementation of a wide range of reform activities which culminated in the passage of a public Management Act in 2009 to serve as a guild in the management of public fund.
He said that the act was revised in 2019 to accommodate the changing realities on the public Financial Management land scape amongst which was the creation of the Comptroller and Accountant General Department, at the Ministry of Finance Development Planning (MFDP).
According to him, the public Financial Management refers to the collection, management and expenditure of public finances throughout the economy.
He said the newly launched “Public Financial Management and You” will also focus on budget execution, Integrated Financial Management rollout process, Electronic Document management system, Treasury Single Account, Professional of the Comptroller and Accountant General Department at the Ministry of Finance Development Planning (MFDP) among others.
According to him, the Ministry of Finance Development Planning will provide temporary employment for over 40 Liberians and the campaign is expected to last for a least four months and will take place in in four of Liberia’ fifteen counties including Nimba, Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Cape Mount; Writes By T.R Dixon.
