Unity Party Chairman Amin Modad Speaks Out

by newsmanager

Dear Partisans & Colleagues,

I can fight back as much as anyone; I can throw blames across as much as anyone; I can also bleed just like anyone. However, there are times we must choose our disposition prudently. It is my duty to take responsibility for how the Party fares regardless of the circumstances. I continue to take the higher road with the understanding that everyone responds to defeat in different ways. As I’ve been encouraging, our enemies will strike when we are most vulnerable by breaking our weakest links; the easiest way to identify and break those links, is to attack from within.

In time, the weakest links will expose themselves as we are seeing. Realistically, there are distractors far and near. While we fight our most conspicuous adversaries such as the CDC and former collaborators in the CPP, internal elements are poised to distract us and prey upon our weaknesses. THE REST OF US MUST HOLD TOGETHER FIRMLY. One thing I’m certain about is, WE HAVE BUILT A WINNING TEAM that has demonstrated competence, capacity & temperament to defend the party, the leadership ability to accept & handle all challenges as they come up, and the unflinching resolve to win the 2023 Presidential Election.

Contrary to the divisive and calculated assertions circulating, the party is more united and on a more progressive trajectory than when we assumed leadership. We now see our legislators, executive leadership, county chairs, auxiliary chapters, and ordinary partisans working together effectively to fulfill our common goals and aspirations.

From the day this leadership took over (just about 18 months ago), we were confronted with many challenges including the psychological impact of losing the 2017 Presidential Elections. We lost credibility and energy; we inherited a Polarized Party, Lack of Structure & Systems (including organizational, administrative, and financial), several pending Bi-Elections that we were not strategically prepared for, Eviction, Debts, Relocation, CPP Crisis, Case with NEC, Cases in Court, Broken County Structures…you name them; worst of all, a party with barely $5,000 in its accounts.

We assumed leadership of the party with everything working against us including the general apprehension that coming from the business world, we were novice to politics and would not survive. We took all of these challenges into consideration and assumed office running and determined to transform the party!

We did not only put our hearts and energies into succeeding, we risked our lives and enterprises by putting in our personal resources to ensure that the UNITY PARTY resurrects even stronger. After renovating the party’s old HQ out of pocket within 2 months, we circumvented the disgrace of being evicted by acquiring, renovating, and furnishing what has become the best Political HQ in Liberia; we won the Senatorial bi-elections culminating into Hon. Brownie Samukai’s victory in Lofa, Hon. Prince Moye’s in Bong, and by extension, Hon. Darius Dillon’s in Montserrado, Hon. Botoe Kanneh’s in Gbarpolu, and Hon. Jonathan Boy-Charles Sogbie’s in River Gee.

We won ‘THE CASE’ at the National Elections Commission that attempted to erase the UP from this and subsequent elections (particularly, the 2023 Presidential Elections); we won ‘THE CASE’ at the SUPREME COURT that attempted to rob the People of Lofa their Constitutional Rights. While all of these were going on, we began reestablishing county offices in ALL the 15 counties that were none existing when we assumed leadership; we even began buying land for county offices as part of our agenda to own all our offices (including our National HQ) by 2025.

We have equipped 65% of the county offices with Computers & Phones for Communication (the remaining 35% will be completed by within the next week or so); we’ve purchased and begun distributing motorbikes to all the counties to enable more effective operations and mobilization; we’ve streamlined all internal processes and institutionalized financial responsibility and accountability to the point where all revenue can be accounted for.

By the way, we’ve spent more than $100K personally in the last 18 months to build up the party and bring it to where we are. We’ve achieved much more than we can list herein. Would all these have happened without an effective, dedicated, and responsible leadership team? ONLY those bent on dividing the party would be intentionally oblivious to the monumental challenges we were confronted with AT THE SAME TIME and in a relatively short period of time. ONLY those consumed by selfish motives can deny the progress we’ve made as a party in the last 18 months due to the effectiveness of the leadership team we’ve built and the dynamic management we provide.

Coming to the recent Lofa Bi-Election (the second attempt) …SO, we experienced a hurdle along the way. I still believe that a lot were achieved despite losing marginally. There are lessons to be learnt by ALL OF US from the Lofa Bi-Elections.

WE FOUGHT A GREAT FIGHT AND WE SUCCEEDED IN MANY REGARDS. WE GOT MORE VOTES THIS TIME AS A PARTY THAN WHEN WE CONTESTED AS A GROUP OF 4 UNDER THE CPP! WE WON 4 OUT OF THE 5 DISTRICTS. LEADING BY EXAMPLE AND TAKING THE FIRST STEPS IN MANY INSTANCES, WE GALVANIZED THE FINANCIAL AND MORAL SUPPORT TO SUPPORT THE LOFA BI-ELECTIONS. PARTISANS FROM ACROSS EVERY LEVEL IN OUR STRUCTURE TURNED OUT IN LOFA TO CAMPAIGN AND SUPPORT OUR CANDIDATE. OUR LOSS WAS NOT DUE TO UNITY, SUPPORT, OR COMMITMENTS! LOFA VOTED STRONGLY WITH REGIONAL & TRIBAL SENTIMENTS.

LET US NOT PRETEND THAT WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THESE SENTIMENTS. SOME OF THOSE WHO ARE NOW THROWING BLAMES AROUND ARE ONLY TRYING TO COVERUP THEIR OWN INEFFICIENCIES & PERSONAL FAILURES AND EXPLOIT THE NATURAL SENTIMENTS OF LOSS TO INFLUENCE THE UPCOMING CONVENTION. IF WE HAD THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS THE DAY AFTER THE LOFA BI-ELECTIONS, JNB WOULD WIN OVERWHELMINGLY! THE VOTERS WHO VOTED ON REGIONAL & TRIBAL LINES FOR JALLAH, WOULD VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY FOR JNB. OUR OVERALL PERFORMANCE DEMONSTRATES OUR STRENGTH IN LOFA AND OUR STANDARD BEARER’S INCONTESTABLE POPULARITY.

MY DEAR PARTISANS AND COLLEAGUES, WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY HERE TO PREPARE OURSELVES BETTER FOR 2023. LET US NOT LOSE IT. OUR STANDARD BEARER HAS THE GOD GIVEN OPPORTUNITY (especially with Jallah joining the CDC) TO REAFFIRM HIMSELF AS THE UNIFIER AND LEADER OF LOFA COUNTY! The magnanimity and political maturity our party and our Standard Bearer demonstrated in the last couple of days post the Lofa Bi-Elections will be the foundation of our victory in 2023; it is worth noting that ALL decisions made by the party during our leadership are made through consultations and consensus.

But here we are, instead of retrospection, deeply introspecting, and focusing on how we can become more formidable for the 2023 elections, we are allowing few ‘slippery weak-minded fellows’ to re-inject divisiveness in our party. Instead of being strategic and buoyant we are allowing ourselves to be pulled into a vortex of timidity, confusion, and mediocrity. As a group of experienced and professional citizens with greater aspirations under the banner of this great party, will we allow ourselves to become so dejected that we will become enslaved by failure just after 1 hurdle that is not even a total loss?

As someone who is driven to succeed, I go to battles prepared for losses in a different way; what most people see as total loss or defeat, I see as an opportunity to better strategize and prepare for ABSOLUTE VICTORY. IF WE CANNOT MANGE THE FEW HURDLES ON THE WAY TO VICTORY IN 2023, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE VICTORY AND POWER.

HERE AND AGAIN, I APPEAL TO ALL OF YOU TO PLEASE STOP THIS BLAME SHIFTING, WILD UNSUBSTANTIATED ACCUSATIONS, AND UNNECESSARY BICKERING. PUTTING ME ASIDE, THIS TREND WILL ONLY DEMOTIVATE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GIVING THEIR ALL (HERE AND IN THE DIASPORA) FOR THE PARTY BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN THE VALUES OF PARTY AND US THEIR LEADERS.

Within the next couple of weeks, we will come up with a strategy and an action plan for the 2023 Election that will take into consideration lessons learnt from Lofa Bi-Election as well as other circumstances. We assure you we will put in place mechanisms to better manage future elections. IF FEW PERSONS in our midst are THIS WEAK, LET THE MAJORITY OF US SHOW THEM THAT WE ARE NOT! IT IS HIGH TIME THAT WE BROUGHT OUT OUR BEST TO ENSURE THAT WE BUILD A MORE DYNAMIC, STRONGER, AND EFFICIENT PARTY TO SAVE LIBERIA.

Best regards, Chairman Amin Modad
