MONROVIA: The Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu, has asserted that the former Chairman of the opposition Liberty Party (LP), Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, is a good man.
Chairman Morlu over the weekend told a gathering of CDCians that Cllr. Koffa, who is now Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, while serving as Chairman of the LP, supported the CDC with moral and financial resources.
Morlu, among others, indicated that Deputy Speaker Koffa is also a philanthropist who loves the CDC, dating as back as his days as chairman of the opposition Liberty Party.
“I know the Deputy Speaker for long time; he is a good man; he loves the CDC. This man was in Liberty Party as chairman, he had one foot in the LP and another foot in the CDC. He was magnanimous to the party,” Morlu noted.
He mentioned that although Rep. Koffa, at the time was accused by stalwarts of the Liberty Party as a friend to George Manneh Weah, he did not stop his overwhelming support to the CDC.
Morlu maintains that the action of Deputy Speaker Koffa was his way of identifying with the ordinary people and not a game of double standard.
“CDC, is a party where the ordinary people are in the majority, so he was always leaning with us. So, when he joined the party, it was already belated because he was already a member. Membership by action,” Morlu accentuated.
The CDC chairman at the same time expressed optimism that the Grand Kru County Lawmaker will do more to improve the living standard of the party members.
Morlu made the statement at program marking the official opening of the Munah Pelham Youngblood Technical and Vocational Institute, which is situated in the National Headquarters of the Coalition for Democratic Change in Congo Town.
During the opening program, Chairman Morlu constituted a five-member Committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker with the primary responsibility to make available three buses in order to address to transportation constraints of the students and staff of the institute.
Other members of the Committee include Representative Thomas Fallah, Co-Chairman; Mayor Jefferson Koijee, Secretary General; Speaker Bhofal Chambers and Pro temp Albert Chie as members.
Morlu added that the school styled: ‘Munah Tech’ is a free institution intended to build the human resource capacity of Liberians, particularly members of the CDC to contribute positively to the nation-building state.
In brief remark, Deputy Speaker Fonati Koffa extolled the party leaders for the numerous sacrifices over the years, attributing the CDC success to the contributions of its leaders.
“As the ANC in South Africa is the oldest political institution in Africa, the CDC is the youngest political liberation movement on the continent,” he said.
The CDC liberation is not about an Armed Struggle but one that will liberate the minds, it is a struggle to give independence of thoughts and actions, he stressed..
“Never in the history of a political party that an institution dream to say, we are not just going to build partisans to say ‘Aah oo say’ or partisans who runs to their leaders for handouts, but we want to build partisans who are equally empowered to stand on their own so they can be able to give back to institution,” he stressed.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the CDC is significantly contributing to the ‘Political Economy’ of the country. He noted that no political institution has ever established a structure like the Munah Tech in Liberia.
