MONROVIA: Nimba County’s charismatic Senator, Prince Y. Johnson, alias, “PYJ” says the Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings, is desperate for state power, and as such, he (PYJ) cannot support such a man to ascend to the coveted Liberian Presidency come 2023 elections.
Senator Johnson made the statement during the Saturday, September 17, 2022 edition of the Spoon Talk-Show, one of the leading radio stations in Congo town, near Monrovia.
The controversial Nimba County Senator made it clear that on many occasions, Alexander Benedict Cummings (ABC), who is now heading the breakaway Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) and former Vice President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, of the erstwhile governing Unity Party (UP) visited him (PYJ), at his residence in Paynesville, to seek his support for the pending 2023 presidential and legislative elections.
Senator Johnson indicated that he, as a man who was called by the Almighty God, can’t give his support to Mr. Cummings for the Liberian presidency due to his alleged social activities.
PYJ told the radio and television outlet that apart from the incumbent President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah, no other presidential aspirant will merit his support for the Liberian presidency come 2023.
According to PYJ, Liberia is a Christian nation and as such, nobody including ANC political leader, Alexander Benedict Cummings, should be given such opportunity because Cummings’ desperation for state power is very high.
Senator Johnson used the occasion to clarify his statement that the 2023 presidential and legislative elections would be free, fair, transparent, and credible.
Senator Johnson made the clarification in response to a question raised by the former Secretary General of opposition Unity Party, Mo Ali, on the Spoon Talk-Show as per his (Senator Johnson’s) previous statement concerning the 2023 elections.
But, an official of the erstwhile ruling Unity Party, rejected Senator Johnson’s claim that the former Vice President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, visited him (Johnson) to discuss 2023 polls and to ask for his (PYJ’s) support for the Liberian presidency.
The UP official however, said Mr. Boakai only visited the Nimba County’s Senator, widely referred to as the political ‘Godfather of Nimba’ and strongman during the 2017 elections that brought President Weah to power.
Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, is a Kingmaker in recent Liberia’s political history as his support helped to bring former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to state power in 2011.
