YARPAH TOWN, RIVERCESS: The Grassroots Agency for Social Services based in Grand Bassa County, has organized an agricultural seeds fair in Rivercess County, in Southeast Liberia.

The Fair which was held in Yarpah Town, Rivercess County recently, was organized with support from the European Union through the PARTNER program.

The PARTNER program is a consortium of international groups which includes Concern Worldwide that is being implemented in Bassa and Rivercess Counties.

This event brought together farmers from the two Counties with the hope of educating farmers on the preservation of seeds for improved agriculture and food multiplication, as well as to create linkage between seeds producers and seeds vendors in Rivercess and Grand Bassa Counties.

Mr. Barley Togba, the National Program Coordinator of Grassroot Agency for Civil Society, lauded the European Union who said it used tax payers’ money to fund the event through PARTNER Program.

Mr. Togba told farmers that one of the surest ways for anyone at the grassroot level to be economically viable is to engage in farming. He also used the time to encourage farmers of both counties to seize the opportunity and run with it as the two counties are behind.

“‘It is time to run so as to catch up with Nimba County and possibly pass them in agriculture development.” Togba spoke about how the two counties are challenged in agriculture development.

He bemoaned national government’s inability to pay attention to the agriculture sector which he said is causing serious problem for the ordinary people.

The Guest Speaker for the program, Madam Joye Korvah, the county Agriculture Coordinator of Grand Bassa County, thanked Concern Worldwide who has been working with farmers in the counties.

Madam Korvah emphasized the importance of seeds and their preservation. She urged farmers to get the best seeds for planting purposes, if they want to succeed in their farming programs.

She praised the very important role being played by Concern Worldwide; adding that its contribution to the agriculture sector in the country cannot be over emphasized, because it has built the capacities of farmers by conducting several training programs in various areas of agriculture.
