MONROVIA: The Secretary General of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Tamba Koijee, says “Nimba County is not the personal property of single person,” and warned anyone claiming its ownership to desist.
According to the CDC Secretary General, Nimba County is part of the 15 political sub-divisions of the Liberian Nation, so no Liberian should have such a wrong notion that Nimba is his/her property simply because he/she hails from there.
Although the governing CDC top Executive did not call the name of the person who he said is behaving as if the county is their personal property, but in recent times, Nimba County Senator, Prince Y. Johnson, alias “PYJ,” has been raising concerns that the County immensely contributed to the victoria of the now governing CDC in 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
Senator Johnson widely referred to as “God-Father of Nimba” and a “King-Maker” pointed out that the support of Nimba County for the CDC’s victory in the 2017 polls was based on a formal agreement involving CDC and the people of Nimba County.
According to Senator Johnson, the CDC led government of Liberia would have given jobs, including top ministerial and other positions to citizens of Nimba County origin.
He, however, claimed for the past five years, President Weah has not lived up to the intent and spirit of said agreement involving CDC and the people of Nimba.
On the basis of the purported failure by President Weah and his government, Senator Johnson has vowed to campaign in every town, village, and city in Nimba County against the re-election of the CDC-led Government, headed by President Weah.
The Nimba Lawmaker said Weah and his Government has turned their back on the people of the county and that incumbent President Weah is more focused on appointing to positions people who predominately hailed from the southeastern region of the country where he (President Weah), hails from.
To ensure that President Weah is not reelected, the “Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), a political party, organized by Senator Johnson has announced that it is putting forth a presidential candidate for the 2023 Elections in Liberia. The Polls are scheduled for October 10.
However, speaking at a press conference held at the CDC National Headquarters on Monday, February 6, 2023, SG Koijee lauded the people of Nimba County for being developmental and encouraged them to remain focused in their developmental drive.
He pointed out that the overwarming political support that anyone enjoys from county should not be misinterpreted that they own Nimba County.
He stressed that Nimba County is not a political institution.
At the same time, the governing CDC has disclosed that it will shortly hold a home-coming program for all CDCians at home and abroad.
The homecoming is to encourage CDC partisans who may have left the now ruling party and joined other political parties in the country for various reasons to return to the CDC for the betterment of the country.
At the homecoming forum, disenchanted former CDCians who are returning to the party will be afforded the opportunity to give reasons for their disenchantment in yesteryears, and why they are now making a U-Turn.
The forum will also help to find appropriate remedies to the plights of the returning CDCians.
Koijee used the occasion to commend Liberians for turning out in their numbers for the petitioning of President Weah to contest for another six-year constitutional term of office in the 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.
