MONROVIA: Nimba County’s charismatic Senator, Prince Yormie Johnson, alias, “PYJ,” Thursday, February 16, 2023, paid what seems to be a courtesy visit to the Rehab residence of former Vice President, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai (JNB).

Ambassador Boakai is also the Political Leader and Standard Bearer of the former ruling Unity Party (UP).

A press release, dated February 16, 2023, and issued in Monrovia by the Office of the former Vice President disclosed that Senator Johnson met with Ambassador Boakai at his residence in the Rehab Community, Paynesville City, outside Monrovia.

The release said, the two “political leaders greeted each other warmly” although they were not on the same political side during the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
The Nimba Senator is the Founder of the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction (MDR), a political party.

The release added that in the spirit of national reconciliation, Ambassador Boakai held several meetings with other political leaders and therefore welcomed the visit of the Nimba Senator.

“After exchanging pleasantries, the two well-known leaders then held discussions on matters of national concerns, including the upcoming 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections,” the Office of the former Vice President added.

Although details of the ongoing talks involving Ambassador Boakai and Senator Johnson remain scanty, the UP-Standard Bearer recently acknowledged to the Voice of America (VOA) in an interview that no single individual can defeat incumbent President George Manneh Weah in the October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.

Speaking to the VOA recently, Ambassador Boakai emphasized that to remove incumbent President Weah from state power democratically; it requires the collective efforts of all and collaboration of members of the opposition community.

Senator Johnson’s visit to Boakai’s residence comes on the heels of recent war of words involving him and President Weah, whom, he (Senator Johnson) accused of failing to respect the intent and spirit of previous document reportedly signed by CDC and MDR, Johnson’s Party during the 2017 polls.

The political document reportedly signed by CDC and MDR, according to Senator Johnson, calls for the appointment of Nimbaians to key positions in the CDC-led Government, including top ministerial posts.
Senator Johnson also said his MDR Party will field a Presidential Candidate in this Election aimed at ensuring that incumbent President Weah is not given any second chance in the nation’s highest seat.

The Senator also accused the CDC-led government of miserable failure in the implementation of numerous development promises made to the Liberian people since 2017.

Conversely, the CDC-led government, said it has successfully carried out more national development programs including construction of road networks, provision of scholarships for Liberian students, free education programs, among others.

President Weah, among other things said, if Senator Johnson wants to withhold MDR’s support to the CDC led Government in the 2023 elections; the party has the option to do so but the Government remains serviceable to all Liberians.
