ACCRA: An interagency delegation led by the Director-General of the National Bureau of Concessions, Atty. Edwin Dennis, met with the WFP Country Director of Ghana, Mrs. Barbara Tulu Clemens.
During the meeting which took place on Monday February 13, 2023, Atty. Dennis informed the WFP boss of Ghana that the team was in Ghana for a study tour of the palm butter production industry in Ghana.
The idea of the tour, he said, grew out of the goal of President Weah to provide alternative livelihood for residents of concession communities whose livelihoods were affected by the operations of concession companies.
In this case, the commercial production of Palm butter will not only add value to oil Palm cultivated in Liberia, but will also provide alternative livelihoods for the people in the oil palm concessions communities.
In her response, Mrs. Clemens, Head of WFP in Ghana, welcomed the delegation and lauded the efforts of the Government of Liberia in working to provide alternative livelihoods for women in concession areas whose livelihoods are mostly disrupted due to concession activities in the rural areas.
Mrs. Clemens then promised her office’s fullest cooperation with the team during their stay in Ghana. The team is expected to tour production facilities and Oil Palm plantation in Accra and Takrade respectively.
The Liberian delegation will also meet with executives of Ghanaian companies and Government regulatory agencies that are involved with the entire value addition chain of the oil palm industry.
