MONROVIA: Following intense negotiations and dialogue between the Government of Liberia, through the Liberia National Police (LNP), and former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott, as it relates to providing information on the February 22, 2023 attacks on the residence of Justice Scott, the former Chief Justice has now agreed to talk to the Police.
On February 22, 2023, Justice Scott alarmed that some unidentified persons violently attacked her residence in the Brewerville community, killing her daughter and leaving two of her relatives seriously wounded.
Since the reported attack on Justice Scott and other family members, there appears to be a standoff between the Liberia National Police and Justice Scott, in connection with the police investigation of the reported incidents.
Mid this week, authoritative sources at the Ministry of Justice hinted this paper that the Police have not gotten much-needed information from Justice Scott as part of their investigation for nearly a week since the fatal incident took place.
However, the Liberia National Police (LNP), on Thursday, March 2, 2023, announced that the former Chief Justice has submitted herself to the police investigators.
The ex-Chief Justice’s now cooperative posture, observers say, suggests that the impasse between the Police and Justice Scott has been resolved as a result of behind scene intervention of national stakeholders including the Liberia Council of Churches and some leading civil society organizations among others.
Breaking the news on Justice Scott’s willingness to provide the information to the Police on the February 22, incident, LNP’s Deputy Inspector General for Crime Services Division (CSD), Colonel Prince Mulbah, told journalists at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, March 2, 2023, that Justice Scott is now willing to talk with the police.
Prior to Colonel Mulbah’s update on the LNP probe of the alleged attack, there were media reports that she (Justice Scott) was putting on a non-compliance posture bordering on police investigation.
According to the Deputy Police boss for Crime Services Division, Justice Scott is being represented in the LNP investigation by another former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Cllr. Frances Johnson-Allison.
Cllr. Johnson-Allison also served as Attorney-General of Liberia as well as Chairperson of the National Elections Commission and Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission respectively. She also serves as a Professor of Law at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia.
Col. Mulbah said investigation into Justice Scott’s case delayed because, according to him, the former Chief Justice was not initially cooperating with Police Investigation Team.
He assured Justice Scott that the LNP will do all within its power to bring to conclusion the ongoing investigation without fear or favor.
