Ambassador Greenfield Meets Liberian Delegation In New York

NEW YORK, US: The Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, has met with the Liberian delegation at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Liberian delegation is currently at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, attending the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in celebration of International Women’s Day with a key focus on FGM in Liberia promoting Initiation without Mutilation.

Meeting the Liberian delegation in New York, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield, a distinguished Foreign Service Diplomat who served as U.S. Ambassador to Liberia from 2008-2012, recounted her memorable days as the US Ambassador to Liberia.

She expressed happiness for the presence of the Liberian delegation at the CSW conference and commended the Head of Delegation, Gender Minister Williametta Piso Saydee Tarr for exploring the opportunity to attend the CSW.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield told the delegation that during her service in Liberia, she closely worked with Ambassador Juli Endee as very good friends and sisters.

And so, meeting in New York after several years, the former US Ambassador to Liberia expressed joy and happiness to meet Ambassador Endee and others, “I am so happy of meeting my good old friend over the years”. She talked about their work in Liberia, sisterhood, friendship and her chieftaincy title.

The US Ambassador also jokingly said following a question to Ambassador Endee, “what am I doing to stay young all the time you want to know hahaha. Grace and favor by God”. She expressed happiness that Liberia is rising up for women.

Also speaking, the head of Liberian delegation, Gender Minister Williametta Piso Saydee Tarr commended the US distinguished Diplomat for meeting them despite her busy schedules. She said the Liberian government under President George Manneh Weah is keen on supporting and empowering women to rise to the top.

For her part, the Liberian Culture Ambassador briefly reflected on the harmonious ties that exist between her and the US Ambassador at the UN and lauded Ambassador Greenfield for finding time off her busy schedules to meet with the delegation. She commended the UN Women and Ambassador Jaha Dukureh for her continued supports to the Government and the women of Liberia.

The Liberian delegation, headed by the Minister of Gender Williametta Piso Saydee Tarr is currently at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, attending the Commission on the status of Women (CSW) in celebration of International Women’s Day with a key focus on FGM in Liberia promoting Initiation without Mutilation.
