As October 10 Elections Draw Near: Candidates Nomination Kick-off Today …All Roads Lead To SKD Sports Complex

MONROVIA: With just 108 days to the conduct of the much-anticipated October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, the National Elections Commission (NEC), will, as of today, June 14, 2023, commence a major component of the electoral process, which relates to nomination of aspirants for presidential and legislative positions.

The month-long exercise which is expected to end on July 14, 2023, will see the nomination of aspirants for the elected positions including the Presidency, Vice Presidency and members of the Legislature including the Senate and House of Representatives for the country’s new leadership.
There will be nomination for fifteen (15) positions in the Senate and 73 in the House of Representatives for the 2023 elections.
NEC has announced that the nomination process is in keeping with its Key Electoral Dates for the conduct of the 2023 Elections.
The candidate’s nomination workout will take place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia, from 9:00AM to 05:00PM, Monday to Saturday daily.
The NEC says individuals wishing to be nominated for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative Elections MUST appear in person during the Nomination Period.
NEC also stated that nomination forms for Candidates of Political Parties will be delivered to the Chairman or Secretary General of the political Parties for distribution to the members.
Alternatively, according to NEC, political parties are allowed to designate a liaison officer to pick up the forms while Independent Aspirants are advised to pick up their forms themselves.
Moreover, the Commission named the general requirements for the candidate nomination as follow; aspirant must be a Liberian; aspirant must attain the age of 25 years for Representative and 35 years for President and Vice President; aspirant for Representative position must be domiciled in the constituency one year prior to the elections; aspirants for President and Vice President must be resident in Liberia for not less than 10 years prior to the elections, and aspirant must be a tax payer.
