MONROVIA: The Deputy Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP) for Crime Services, Col. Prince Mulbah, has disclosed that Charloe Musu’s body was found in the bathroom of Gloria Musu Scott, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
Addressing a crowded news conference at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Wednesday, June 21, 2023 on Capitol Hill in Monrovia, Col. Mulbah said, “it is not possible for anyone to have access to the residence of the former chief justice except someone allows you in because of the way the house was built.

According to Col. Mulbah, following three months of investigation into the death of Charloe Musu, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has established that Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and three of her family members including Rebecca Youdeh Wisner, Gertrude Newton and Alice Johnson or ‘AC’ are responsible for the death of Charloe Musu.

The LNP Deputy Inspector for Crime Services pointed out that in line with the Liberian Constitution, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and three of her family members who are currently being detained at the LNP Headquarters will be sent to court for prosecution immediately following their 48 hours detention.
He also indicated that the Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged the former Chief Justice and three of her family members with murder, criminal conspiracy and making false statements to law enforcement officers for the death of her niece, Charloe Musu.

Col. Mulbah further told the news conference that, following an in-depth investigation into the case, Mr. Varlee Telleh a Patrolman of the MCC and the Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson T. Koijee, who is also Secretary General of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) are all innocent and had nothing to do with the case.
Reports say Charloe Musu was murdered at the home of Justice Gloria Musu Scott in Brewerville, outside Monrovia, on February 22, 2023.

Also in February, 2023, the former Chairman of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome J. Verdier, speaking on the killing of Charloe Musu, accused Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, of masterminding the killing of Charloe Musu.

Cllr. Verdier, at the time, alleged that a security officer, working with Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), of which Jefferson Tamba Koijee serves as Head, Varlee Telleh, carried out the murder of Charloe Musu, on the orders of the Monrovia City Mayor.

The former TRC Chairman also alleged that Varlee Telleh was shirtless and barefooted, wearing only shorts and holding a Knife entered the house of Justice Scout to sodomize her before assassinating her.
According to Cllr. Verdier, then, the former Chief Justice managed to escape after spraying her attacker’s eyes with “pepper spray.” Both Mr. Telleh and Koijee vehemently rejected claims of their involvement in Charloe Musu’s death.

However, in the same February, Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, filed a letter of complaint to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), against the former Chairman of the erstwhile Liberia Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome J. Verdier, for making false accusations against him.

In the communication then, Koijee called the attention of the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musah Dean, who is also Attorney General of Liberia, to the claim made by the former Chairman of the erstwhile TRC, Cllr. Verdier.

Koijee told Minister Dean in said communication that Cllr. Verdier made a false accusation without facts, and launched a vile attack on his person for unexplained reasons.

Koijee also clarified to the Justice Minister that Varlee Telleh, who the former TRC boss accused of killing the former Chief Justice’s daughter is not the Deputy Director for Operations (City Police) at the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), but a patrolman at the MCC.

“Varlee Telleh is a Patrolman of the MCC and not Deputy for Operations as fallaciously stated by Cllr. Verider,” the MCC boss said, debunking the allegation of the former TRC head.

Koijee also told journalists at that time that Mr. Telleh is a current lecturer at the Masjid Tahled Mosque, a renowned Muslim school in the Brewerville Community with an enrollment of over 200 students.

The Liberia National Police previous preliminary findings suggested that the incident occurred on Wednesday night at about 9:30 p.m., as narrated by Madam Gloria Musu-Scott, who further revealed that a man who was part of a crew she hired to carry out some construction works at her residence remained hidden inside the house at the end of the work day, while his colleagues had retired for the day.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the Liberian government, through the Ministry of Justice conducted an autopsy on the remains of Charloe to establish the cause of her death.

According to the Provisional report of the autopsy released by the government, Charloe Musu’s death is suggested to have been caused by exsanguinations, massive left hemothorax and left lung collapse.

According to the preliminary autopsy report, Exsanguination means to use a sharp object to pierce a person in many times in a violent manner.

The government’s pathologist, Dr. Benedict Kolee, who conducted the autopsy, further revealed that two of the injuries on the deceased left side cut a blood vessel under her rib.
He revealed that the deceased bled profusely outside and inside, adding that the bleeding inside filled her left side chest and damaged the left lung.

He maintained that the provisional report of the cause of death of the former Chief Justice’s daughter is just a hint that will reveal the actual cause of death in the Final Report by Dr. Benedict Kolee.
Autopsy was conducted on March 21, 2023 in the presence of representatives of the Justice Scott’s Family, government of Liberia, the media and other civil society organizations at the St. Moses Funeral Parlors. The Final autopsy is yet to be made public by the government’s hired pathologist, Dr. Benedict Kolee.

The Charloe Musu was expected to graduate from the Starz University College in Sinkor, Monrovia this year, according to reports.
