MONROVIA: A high-powered delegation of the West Africa Elders Forum, an initiative of Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, is due to arrive in Monrovia tomorrow 12th July, 2023.
Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, will lead the delegation which comprises some former heads of state. The forum seeks to advance democracy, peace and security in the West African region.
The forum had made similar election mediation missions to other countries including Senegal, Gambia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
During the visit to Liberia, the delegation will hold preliminary facts-finding and mediation meetings with key stakeholders in and out of government ahead of the crucial 10, October, 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections in Liberia.
The delegation also includes former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, and former ECOWAS Commission President, Kadrie Desire Ouedraogo.
On Tuesday, 12, July, 2023, the delegation will meet with President George Manneh Weah.
After meeting President Weah, the West Africa Elders Forum Mission will meet with the leadership of the Liberian Legislature, and with the leadership of the Judiciary on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.
On Wednesday, 13, July, the West Africa Elders Forum will meet with Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC).
According to a release, following the meeting with the NEC, the delegation will meet with chairpersons and secretaries general of registered political parties.
Later in the day, the delegation will hold separate discussions with the Joint Security and cross-sections of civil society organizations including the Elections Coordinating Committee, Liberia Elections Observers Network, Angie Brooks International Center, Coalition of Political Parties Women in Liberia, Press Union of Liberia, and the Federation of Liberian Youth.
In separate meetings, the delegation of the West Africa Elders Forum will also discuss with the standard bearers of the Unity Party, Joseph Nyuma Boakai; and the Collaborating Political Parties, Alexander Benedict Cummings.
Additionally, the delegation will meet with the members of the diplomatic corps.
The West Africa Elders Forum will climax its visitation to Liberia with engagement with a select-section of the Liberian media.
