Dean of Amos Sawyer College Honored In India

MONROVIA: Dr. Josephus M. Gray, Dean of Amos C. Sawyer College, University of Liberia, has been honored in India with a prestigious award.

The award was presented to Dr. Gray on July 19, 2023 by Prof. Dr. Anviti Gupta, Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sharda University, Republic of India.

“I’m convinced we’re on the right path. Thank you for linking the University of Liberia and Sharda University to enter into MoU for concrete benefits”, Dr. Gupta told Dr. Gray.

“Your hard work, perseverance and commitment to UL-Sharda U ties pays off beyond expectation,” Dr. Gupta further said.
The Indian Scholar disclosed that the award recognizes Dr. Gray’s extraordinary hard work and accomplishments as Dean of a sisterly College in Liberia.

Gupta believes that the recent visit of UL delegation to Sharda University and Sharda Hospital will lead to an open door approach, open to feedback and constructive criticisms, creating a ground for a sound learning experience.

He expressed the urgent need for both colleges to exchange faculty, students’ semester studies exchange, undertake a joint research project and publication of a peer-reviewed journal of social sciences.

Dr. Gupta also underscored the need to conduct short and long term studies tours to enhance the MoU, faculty development, and the enhancement of the skills of students.

Within a short period of its establishment in 2012, the College has emerged as the epicenter of cultural, creative and academic activity at Sharda University with students from all over the world creating a multi-cultural environment and a vibrant network of global students.

” We’re truly grateful for all that we have achieved together to expand the MoU, and strengthen ties imbued with new landmark academic deals and concrete benefits,” he stressed.

The sealed deals include exchange of faculty, staff and students, credit transfer programs, short term teaching sabbaticals by faculty from the two colleges, introduction of similar curricula and degree programs, semester credit transfer/study abroad at the Sharda College of Humanities and Social Sciences, semester student exchange and joint bachelor and master courses, internships and joint research projects and the publication of a social science journal.

The awarding ceremony brought together the Chairpersons and Senior Professors including the heads of Departments of English, Literature, History, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, and Yogic Sciences, respectively.

Making remarks at the honoring program, Dr. Josephus Moses Gray, Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College, University of Liberia said, “I am incredibly humbled to be recognized and awarded with a prestigious honor by the Dean and the leadership of Sharda University School of Humanities and Social Sciences, located in Knowledge Park, Greater Norda, New Delhi, India.”

” I would not be more proud of the work we have done together as counterparts,” he added.

Dr. Gray informed his Indian counterpart and the faculty about the University of Liberia’s commitment to enhancing the ties exiting between UL and Sharda University, particularly the two colleges, in the face of the growing competitive academic environment.

The UL Professor used the award ceremony to express his appreciation on behalf of the President of UL, Prof. Dr. Julius Julukon Sarwolo Nelson and the academic team of Amos C. Sawyer College for exiting ties subsisting between the two institutions.

Dr. Gray informed the faculty of the college that Amos C. Sawyer College, particularly the University under the leadership of Dr. Nelson is committed to achieve the five objectives of Higher Education; Pedagogy, Extension, Application, Research and Learning.

He pinpointed that the college is on a new course of academic trajectory.

At Sawyer College, students do not only get chance to study at the institution but also exposure to prove their capabilities through their works, Dr. Gray indicated.

Prof. Dr. Anviti Gupta is a Professor of Psychology; she earned her Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from the University of Lucknow.

She is a certified psychological counselor and trained clinical hypnotherapist who extends her expertise in areas relating to juvenile and adolescents’ problems like anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse and materialism.

Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences main focus is to nurture and develop cognitive and non-cognitive skills, aligned with the goals of education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

Social Sciences equip the students with strong theoretical, analytical and empirical understanding of the subject matter and provides a very strong foundation which prepares graduates from the college to become pragmatic professionals, competent decision and policy makers, while also being sensitive human beings.
