MONROVIA: President George Manneh Weah has rallied partisans, supporters, and Liberians in general to reelect him to the Nation’s Presidency.
President Weah indicated that his records as a passionate implementer and developer are solid and assuring.
“Fellow Liberians, I am your president, your implementer, your developer, your talk-and-do,” Weah said at the campaign launch of his Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
CDC supporters described the Thursday, September 7, 2023, launching ceremony of the governing party as the “largest gathering ever in Liberia’s political history.”
“Before becoming president, I educated people,” he added.
“Today, it is no surprise that education is free. Today, your children can attend public universities free of charge. Today, parents do not have to struggle to pay WASSCE fees or like I did, to pay my fees,” the President added.
According to the Liberian leader, CDC remains unwaveringly committed to what he calls “the people’s struggle,” launched several years ago to emancipate the country from the clutches of underdevelopment.
“We are here because of what we have achieved together and to also show the World how true democracy works – there is no political prisoners behind bars,” the incumbent President added.
Weah recounted the successes that his administration achieved in the first six-year term of his administration.
“We have freedom of speech and of the press. We have gender equality and women development. We have youth empowerment and participation in government. Together, we have achieved a lot in the infrastructure development,” the Liberian leader told the surging crowd of his supporters and well-wishers.
He continued: “On October 10, 2023, Vote George Manneh Weah for President, your leader, your father, your brother, and your friend. Vote Jewel Howard-Taylor for Vice President, your mother, your sister, and your friend. Number 18 is your number; number 18 is our number. It is your street. It is our street. We are all 18ners.”
Weah, a former global soccer legend and United Nations (UN’s) ex-Goodwill Ambassador turned politician, hailed ‘first-time voters’ for what he calls the “right choice” made by them to follow and vote for the Coalition for Democratic Change, which he described as “the people’s party.
The President reminded supporters and citizens to be mindful of those people who are claiming to be “rescuers” and “fixers” to show them what they have ever rescued and fixed for the Liberian people.
“Did they rescue the bad roads in Liberia?” he quipped. “Did they rescue the education system? Did they rescue the health sector? Did they rescue the agricultural sector? Did they rescue our economy? Did they rescue us from unemployment? The answer is a big no. They had leadership for over 40 years, and they squandered all the opportunities to rescue you.”
The President boasted of his records of less than six years of leadership, including building more hospitals than any other former president of Liberia and paving more roads than any president in Liberia’s history.
He added: “For the first time in our history, we have constructed parks and recreational facilities for our young people; and this will be replicated throughout the 15 counties of Liberia after you give us a new mandate.”
President Weah also announced that his government would re-activate and strengthen the national cadet program for young people to gain experience on the job while in school.
Hundreds of thousands of cheering partisans and supporters from all walks of life swarmed Monrovia’s cramped streets on Thursday for has been characterized by a keen observer as a “glaring show of loyalty and commitment to President Weah second term bid.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the governing CDC, Mulbah K. Morlu, described the Thursday event as a “One Round Victory’ Day,” or “Massive Celebration of H.E. George M. Weah’s Re-election Campaign.”
“It was, indeed, the most massive singular rally Liberia has ever seen, and it took place across the entire country,” Morlu indicated.
Chairman Morlu: “I want to extend many thanks to the Nagbe-led campaign committee, the entire party structure & ‘Silent supporters’ for this gigantic success. Many more thanks, especially to the resilient masses, the people, our people, our diehard militants and foot-soldiers scattered throughout the constituencies. You’re our heroes and heroines, THANK YOU. As we have often assured you, let’s keep fighting together in UNITY and we will certainly win together. No soldier will be left behind, I assure you that”.
“And let me use this time to congratulate the over 1,000 students who recently graduated from the party’s vocational training school, Munah-Tech. Congratulations, and we got even bigger & better plans for our partisans and supporters moving forward. Anyway, now that we have achieved this historic ‘One Round Victory’ feat together in UNITY, all fighting forces & ‘Trench Warriors’ in Montserrado County are encouraged to remain actively deployed & engaged on a day-to-day basis, going from street-to-street and house-to-house,” the CDC Chairman emphasized.
Chairman Morlu: We, supported by a select team of dozens of ‘Trench Warriors’ will be coming your way soon to engage with our people as we (together) strive to STRENGTHEN our dear President’s ‘One Round’ Victory momentum.
Morlu: “Yes, president Weah & Vice President Taylor truly deserve a ‘One Round Victory’ that’s going to be free, fair & transparent. Amidst the global challenges that have affected every nation on earth for years now, this President has kept Liberia safe, peaceful & healthy, protected all fundamental rights, & moved the nation forward in impressive development gains. Therefore, his ‘One Round’ re-election victory is a patriotic duty for all Liberians.
Get ready, our beloved counties, especially rural areas; we’re coming to join your commendable efforts. I’ll be on that Team of ‘TRENCH WARRIORS’ led by CDC Political Heavyweight T-Five! We comin’
Morlu: “Whatever money NEC is to use for a runoff may be reallocated for more good roads & more hospitals ‘cause, we will ‘Beat dem’ ‘One Round’ in a free, fair & transparent election.”
