MONROVIA: Thousands of supporters of the former ruling Unity Party (UP), effectively enveloped Monrovia, Liberia’s Capital and its environs yesterday with massive jubilations as the party held its colorful campaign rally.
Monrovia City was effectively awash with green and white, the colors of the party as surging crowds of its diehard supporters and well-wishers trooped to the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on UN Drive.
Many supporters of the UP printed their own Tea-shirts, face-caps, among other materials and walked from far and near, singing and dancing for what they call the party’s pre-victory gathering.
Before yesterday’s ceremony, which some keen political observers described as one of the largest political gathering, supporters of the party in deprived communities contributed in cash and kind for its resounding success.
A long chain of the party’s officials including presidential candidate, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai, was greeted with massive jubilations and applauds as it slowly moves into the ATS that was already jammed packed upon his triumphant arrival.
Other executives of the former ruling party accompanied Boakai who is believed to be the main political rival of incumbent President, George Manneh Weah to the ceremony.
Before JNB’s arrival, our reporters said, there was no more space at the ATS, as others who were outside of the sporting facility dance and sang revolutionary songs.
We will bring you detailed report on the UP rally yesterday in our subsequent reports.
