MONROVIA: The Secretary General of ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Jefferson Koijee has debunked his alleged involvement in the sad incident which occurred at the headquarters of the Unity Party.
On late Monday, November 20, 2023, a vehicle rammed into jubilant partisans of the Unity Party (UP) at its headquarters in Monrovia, leaving at least three dead and several others severely injured.
Koijee, outlined many claims which he described as false and malicious levied against his good character by individuals, who he said, are members of the opposition community.
Koijee, who is also City Mayor of Monrovia, disclosed that the claims are made against him without any cogent and convincing evidence by his detractors.
He pondered over the rationale behind those allegations by some unscrupulous individuals as a result of political reasons.
According to him, those involved in these acts are only interested in tarnishing his reputation for reasons yet to be established.
He stressed that those people are not interested in finding out the facts surrounding those happenings.
The Chief Scribe of the CDC indicated that those who usually make those reckless comments against his personality are yet to be rebuked due to their political alignment with the accusers.
“They believe Jeff Koijee is the gatekeeper and they must get him but if they can’t get him, they must malign his character,” he said.
He, however, condemned the vehicle incident at the UP headquarters on grounds that “no person’s life deserves to be taken away.” He maintained that “the facts must be exposed.”
Jefferson Koijee questioned the alleged involvement of Gregory Coleman, former Director of the Liberia National Police (LNP; Abraham Kromah, former Deputy Director of the LNP for Operation; and Sam Gaye, for allegedly investigating the perpetrator when they do not have any security authority.
The CDC Secretary General noted that ‘the evil thinkers are also evil doers,’ accusing the Unity Party of endangering its partisans.
At the same time, the CDC, through its Secretary General, has expressed grave concern over the involvement of those ex top officials of the former Unity Party regime in the Liberian security sector.
Amid these claims made by the CDC Secretary General, the Unity Party is yet to give an official response even though effort was exerted by this media institution for the Party’s reaction to Koijee’s assertions.
At the same, the CDC Secretary General has accused the Unity Party of ‘stealing’ the November 14, 2023, presidential runoff election in the country.
Addressing a news conference Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town, the CDC Secretary General maintained that the party has zero intention to participate in a less than 1% mandate-government of the Unity Party.
He stressed that the UP can now enjoy the individual magnanimity of President George Weah, something which, according to him, would have happened in the case of President-elect, Joseph Boakai who said it would have been the end of Liberia if the CDC had rigged the elections.
“We are not here to bring war unlike Joseph Boakai who threatened to end the country if he does not win the elections. The CDC maintains that these elections were not, but they were stolen. Even though the President and our standard bearer had conceded defeat,” Koijee stressed.
According to Koijee, the Unity Party has now been recorded on the bad side of the country’s history, while the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change remains the true definition of peace and democracy.
