MONROVIA: The Director Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Lemuel O. Kleeme, has sharply reacted to some media reports that officials of the Ministry allegedly masterminded the cause of the fire outbreak at the Transport Ministry early yesterday to destroy some documents at the Ministry.
It all happened at the time when the New government, headed by President-elect, Joseph N. Boakai is set to take over from the incumbent government, headed by President George M. Weah, on 22, January, this year.
He said officials of the Ministry have no intension or plan to cause or mastermind any fire outbreak at the Ministry only because they want to destroy documents. He added that all documents at the Ministry are saved.
According to him, officials of the Transport Ministry would never do anything to embarrass themselves and the incoming government.
Report of the fire outbreak at the Ministry came as a surprise to the officials and staffers of the ministry.
He wonders as to why should people attribute the situation to someone masterminding it to destroy documents.
Disclosing this in an interview with a team of Reporters on the ground of the Transport Ministry yesterday, Mr. Kleeme said even though there were fire outbreak at the Transport Ministry but, the fire was at the basement of the Ministry.
“You Know before the Transport Ministry could move to this building now hosting the Transport Ministry , it hosted the Central Bank of Liberia but they later turn this build over to us when they were moving to their new building,” he said.
Mr. Kleeme then used the occasion to caution members of the public spread misinformation on social media desist as doing so will only paint a bad image of the country.
He said the cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be established but, the Ministry will launch an investigation into the cause of the fire incident and inform the public shortly.
Mr. Kleeme however, lauded fire fighters and authority of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) for quickly moving to the Transport Ministry to cut of the fire outbreak.
Reports say this is the fourth major fire incidents as the Weah-led government leaves state power.
In recent times, there have been fire outbreaks at the state-owned Ministry of Finance and Deployment Planning, National Transit Authority, Ministry of Transport, and National Port Authority.
