MONROVIA: The Embassy of Ghana near Monrovia has cut away from social media false claims about the integrity of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s recent working visit to the Republic of Ghana.

President Boakai left Liberia on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, for a two- day working visit to Ghana. But critics broke in after his return, falsely accusing him.

“The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana near Monrovia wishes to urge the general public in Liberia to disregard a piece of fake news or false statement ostensibly made to the ECOWAS Parliament by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” the Embassy said in a statement.

In the statement, the embassy of Ghana categorically stated that Ghana’s President, at no point in time, made the statement in question to the ECOWAS Parliament.

Although some social media users and the Saharaa’s facebook news site continued to carry information that President Nana Akufo-Addo raised concerns against the Liberian leader at the ECOWAS Parliament.

Earlier this year, networks struggled with how to contextualize information from Mr. Boakai about what the Weah’s erstwhile administration left over in the Consolidated Account that Senators and CBL officials considered misleading.

Over the weekend, the Embassy of Ghana was the first to break away from social media claims about Mr. Boakai’s visit.

The move “was to re-affirm that Ghana cherishes its close relations with the Government of Liberia and Liberians will always be welcomed in Ghana,” the statement said.

On the Saharaa facebook site, a caption appeared below from a post, without evidence that ‘The Ghanaian President complained Liberia’s President to the ECOWAS Parliament over a ‘midnight visit’ to his country.

The Embassy of Ghana afterwards told Liberians that, “Ghana’s President, at no point in time, made the statement in question to the ECOWAS Parliament.”
The Executive Mansion also concurred with the Embassy that Ghana stands ready to cooperate with the Government of the Liberia, “in the mutual development of our two nations.”

On Thursday, February 15, the Executive Mansion disclosed that “the President returned home following a brief successful working visit to the Republic of Ghana.”

According to the Executive Mansion, while away, he held talks with members of the Ghanaian Government.

During his meeting with the Ghanaian team, the Executive Mansion said the President extended appreciation for the support received prior to and during his inauguration as well as the visitation by the Ghanaian Leader, President Nana Akufo-Addo.

For his part, the Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia expressed excitement for the visit and assured the Liberian Leader of their continuous support and commitment to Liberia.

“Ghana and Liberia share a unique history of being strong proponents of stable democratic governance not only in West Africa but on the African continent by the peaceful conduct of elections and transitions from one democratically elected president to another in recent history,” the statement added.
