MONROVIA: The Student Unification Party (SUP), a campus-based student political party, of the University of Liberia (UL), has called on the Government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to make clear “its position on the welfare and deplorable state of affairs of the University.

SUP also called on the Boakai led Administration to take “immediate action towards the legislation of free tuition policy.”

Addressing a news conference on February 19, 2024, in Monrovia, SUP pointed out that education is a fundamental right should be non-negotiable and accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic status.

According to the UL campus-based student political party, the implementation of a free tuition policy will not only alleviate the financial burden on students and their families but also promote equal opportunities for Academic advancement and national development.

SUP: “Those who might argue that Free Tuition at the University of Liberia is a burden on the national government should be reminded of the allocation of the national budget and the daily spending of key public officials including Mr. Boakai.

“If Mr. Boakai can spend nearly half of a million just to entertain his partisans, what is wrong with fully providing free and quality education to students of public universities?”
At the same time, the UL based student political party indicated that it has detected early contradictions under the Boakai-Koung Administration, specially President Boakai’s refusal to declare his assets before taking office.
The vanguard party demands to know the assets of Mr. Boakai and his vice President as assts declaration undermines the spirt of transparency and accountability and signals Business as Usual.

Additionally, SUP said, it sees the assets declaration by Mr. Boakai without publication as a mere bluff and a publicity stunt intended to blindfold the public in what clearly appears to be business as usual.

“Henceforth, and given the above, the Student Unification Party (SUP), calls on Mr. Boakai to with immediate effect make his assts known to the public or prepare to write his first public exam to be administered by the vanguard party in the principal streets of Monrovia.”

SUP: “If the Government of Mr. Boakai thinks we are joking, let them test the resolve of the Student Unification Party (SUP), by not publishing their assets.”
“SUP will have no regret in escorting in escorting the Boakai-Koung to early political martyrdom,” a statement issued by the party said.
