MONROVIA: The National Fula Governor of Liberia, Alhaji Mohammed Balo Sow, has disclosed that the Fulani should not be viewed as ordinary spectators in the governance of Liberia.
Alhaji Sow who is commonly referred to as “Supper” pointed out that it is essential for Fulani to be part of national decision-making process of the state.
Governor Alhaji Mohammed Balo Sow indicated that Fulani have many qualified and experienced professional people with integrity and credibility who contribute to Liberia’s reconstruction and development process.
He made the statement on March 3, 2024, at program marking the official Inauguration ceremony of the National Fula Governor of The Republic of Liberia, held at the Antoinette Tubman Sports Stadium on UN Drive in Monrovia.
According to him, historically, the Fulani have had some of her kinds into the decision-making process of the Liberian state.
He recalled that many Fulani served the country in multiple capacities, occupying Deputy and Assistant ministerial positions, advisors in the office of the presidency, among others.
He pointed that, the success of this UP-Led Government is also a success for all Liberians.
Governor Alhaji Mohammed Balo Sow: “This must be reflective of a broad-based inclusion of all, but to date, we are yet to take a solace into a sheet that bears the names Barry, Jalloh, Sow, Bah, Baldi, etc etc. Our people too are getting very concerned, but we know that this is not yet late as we are bright of the days to come.”
Governor Sow told the gathering that there are other challenges that the Fulani community has been faced with as obstacles to their participation in government of inclusion or decision-making processes of the state.
“Today, the Fulani community is proud of many of her sons and daughters as professionals in different fields of study,” he indicated.
He stated that Liberia holds so much promise, but that promise, as envisaged originally by the founders of the country, has faced many stumbling blocks over a century of statehood.
He noted that many of these outlined problems are foundational and that Fulani can collectively work together to achieve them.
The Governor declared: “We, the Fulani are Good people, we are kind a people, we are a forgiving people, and God-fearing people, so let us begin anew, moving forward in to the future that is failed with hope and promise.”
In Union Strong, success is sure! Together we can make the difference!! We cannot fail,” he emphasized.
“ I have so many opportunities in the journey of my life but quite admittedly, I see this one as a providence, the days just yesterday are true reminiscence of where we have come from as a people,” the Fular Governor asserted.
The governor noted that he was cognizant of the myriad of urgent issues that should have been part of his inaugural address but very interestingly, it will be remiss if he does not emphasize “the cornerstone of the matters of importance” which he said, are not just matters to be ignored as they are of existential threat to the political and socio-economic of the state.
He noted that there is a surging concern for Fulani in Liberia. He described such concern as a threat that is gradually undermining the growth and development of the state.
According to Governor Sow, Fulani, like any other ethnic groups in Liberia are not just merchants but they too are key decision makers of the society.
He noted that, the Fulani in this country have always demonstrated that despite of their meaningful contributions to the country economy , they have also maintained the stability of this country my fully participating into worthwhile developmental events such as adhering to the rule of law and by large Contributing to the peace of the country.
“Our long-standing history in this country as a people have always reminded us that the indispensable assets that we have in this country thus we have deemed this very imperative to maintain the peace and stability of the state.
He added that, this is evidenced of the support, contributions and our participation into the activities of the state.
“Unarguably, we are amongst some of the few or perhaps the very few ones in this country that have hugely underscored the importance of paying taxes,” he said.
Governor Sow said this is an indication that they too have long since understood that the surest way to maintain the peace of this country is to pay taxes.
“But it seems to be troubling that our ceaseless form of national participation to the state is still being questioned and to a greater extent to ignored,” he said.
Governor Sow used the occasion to also call on the new Liberian government headed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai that the Fulanis are partners fully committed towards the ARREST Agenda.
“Today, is a great moment for us as Fulani in this Country, permit me to firstly hasten my profound appreciation to the Almighty Allah, the Most Magnificent for affording me such a privilege in my life to be joined by over hundreds of Fulani in and out of Liberia as the Governor of the Fula Community in Liberia,” he said.
