In Liberia This Year: Over 100,000 Risk, Flood, Coastal Erosion, Others… As NDMA Issues ALERT Based On Scientific Data

MONROVIA: The Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Ansu Dulleh has called on vulnerable communities along the coast of Liberia to be on the ALERT for coastal erosion as a result of rising sea levels.

According to Director Dulleh, “Based on Scientific Information, it is predicted that over 100,000 persons are expected to fall prey to flood, windstorm and coastal erosion in Liberia this year.

He further disclosed that over 60% would be affected in coastal counties and that during the raining season, others would be impacted in interiors of the Eastern and Western Regions.

He, however, assured the public that if any of those hazard’s surfaces and subsequently leads to disaster, the government will make efforts to reduce the impacts on the lives of the affected people. Contributed by: Elbie Sebleh
