Senate Snubs Tenure Post Nominee

MONROVIA: Liberia Senate has snubbed the nominees by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to tenure positions because the issue of tenure posts are currently before the Full Bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

Recently, President Boakai nominated Cllr. Moifee Kanneh as Deputy Director-General at the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) and forwarded Cllr. Kanneh’s name to the Liberian Senate for confirmation.

However, the Senate has placed a hold on the confirmation of all tenure positions or officials because matters surrounding such are already before the Supreme Court.

Members of the Committee on Social Security, Pension and Insurance have received President Boakai’s letter but did not act on such because they argued that it will be in violation of the very laws that they have enacted over the years should they confirm Cllr. Kanneh, who is a lawyer and aware of legal proceedings.

The decision by the Liberian Senate suggests that the Upper House is serious in adhering to good governance and rule of law.

Apart, former Deputy Director General, Madam Cllr. Carmerna Cephas Yeke, has filed a Writ of Prohibition against President Boakai’s action to dismiss her.

Mrs. Yeke, as a law-abiding citizen, who is very knowledgeable about the legal issues ran to the Supreme Court to seek redress.
