For Education, C.H. Rennie: Senator McGill Seeks Budgetary Increment

MONROVIA: As the 2024 Fiscal year budget debate continues at the Legislature, Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel McGill, has called for further increment of the education budget through the Ministry of Education.

According to Senator McGill, allotment for additional money in the education budget will go a long way to strengthen the educational sector of the country.

Senator McGill who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education made the disclosed over the weekend at the Capitol Building with Legislative reporters.

He noted that there are teachers working in public schools across the country who have been placed on government payrolls over the years, but serving as voluntary teachers.

He stressed that the education sector should be funded adequately through national budgetary allotment, noting that it is critical towards transforming the Liberian educational system.

The Margibi County Lawmaker maintained that increasing the Ministry of Education’s budget will contribute to equipping teachers training institutes to produce qualified and competent teachers across the nation.

At the same time, Senator McGill has lauded the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, for looking in the direction of making fund available in the National Budget for the rebuilding of the government-owned C. H. Rennie Hospital.

He pointed out that rebuilding of the hospital is crucial for the people of Margibi County and nearby areas.

The Senator said allotting money to carryout construction works on the hospital is laudable.

He proposed that US$1 million should be made available in the National Budget for the hospital’s reconstruction.

It can be recalled that the C.H. Rennie Government Hospital in Kakata City in Margibi County was gotten by fire in August 17, 2021.
