National Conference On Liberia’s Rubber Soon… To Improve Value Addition

MONROVIA: A national conference on Liberia’s rubber sector is expected to take place in the country shortly.

The Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Agriculture disclose that the conference will bring together Liberia’s rubber supply and value chains actors including producers and processors.

The conference is also aimed at devising strategies gear toward improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the sector.

The release said, a Planning Committee, comprising the RDFI, the Rubber Planters Association of Liberia, Firestone, Liberian Agricultural Company (LAC), Salala Rubber Company (SRC), Jeety Rubber, as well as large-holder rubber farmers has been set up to deliberate, and come up with a plan for organizing the hosting of “this very important national conference.”

A press release issued by the RDFI Board, indicates that during nationwide discussions with various stakeholders in reference to Executive Order #124 which imposed a ban on the export of unprocessed rubber from Liberia, other vital issues were raised, even though there are current efforts underway to improve value addition in the Liberian rubber industry.

In a related development, the Rubber Development Fund, Inc (RDI), Board of Directors has informed the Government of Liberia, smallholder rubber farmers, large farmers, and the general public that it officially supports Executive Order #124 which imposes a ban on the export of unprocessed rubber from Liberia.The release said although since this ban, there have been numerous discussions within the rubber sector, the LDFI had not taken an official position since its Board of Directors had not met to deliberate the issue.

Thankfully, the release added, the full Board of the RDFI met on Thursday, April 25, 2024 and came up with a unanimous decision to back the ban.
