MONROVIA: The Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service (LNFRS), in collaboration with Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Orange Liberia, and National Disasters Management (NDM) on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, began a door-to-door awareness campaign on fire prevention.
The awareness campaign started with the visitation of several markets in Monrovia and its environs. Flyers and stickers containing fire prevention messages and as well fire disasters were distributed to community residents and citizens.
The Deputy Director for Administration at the LNFRS, Emmanuel Farr, stated that it is the first time for the institution to carry out such informative and engaging awareness campaign.
According to Mr. Farr, the government was able to budget US$3 million for the purchase of a brand new and well-equipped fire trucks that will be used by the institution during operations.
He indicated that the funds from the government will also be used to purchase fire trucks for the 17 districts in Montserrado because the County is an epic center for fire disasters.
However, Mr. Farr vowed that the government is commitment to preventing fire disasters in the Country.
It can be recalled that on May 2, 2024, LNFRS and Orange Liberia launched a fire preventive awareness campaign in Monrovia aimed at educating the public on how to prevent fire before, during, and after it occurred.
The launch of the fire prevention awareness campaign was part of the observance of the International Firefighter Day under the theme “Ensure Fire Safety, Contribute Towards Nation Building”.
The awareness campaign also forms part of the Fire Safety Week.
Speaking at the launch of the fire prevention awareness campaign, the Director of LNFRS, G. Warsuwah Barvoul, emphasized that the most important part of fighting fire is to prevent it because it saves houses from getting burnt.
Mr. Barvoul said the launch was to inform the people on the three ways fire outbreak comes about which are before, during and after.
According to him, before is the prevention aspect which is very important because prevention is better than cure.
He highlighted that some of the ways fire outbreak comes about is through ignorance because people do lot of things with current and don’t know that it will cause fire.
It is because of that they decided to carry out the awareness campaign to educate the people.
