MONROVIA: The People’s Republic of China (PRC), has reaffirmed its relationship with Liberia.
The reaffirmation was made at a reception hosted by H.E. YIN Chengwu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Liberia.
The enduring bond between China and Liberia was celebrated at the Boulevard palace in Sinkor, Monday May 2024, by government officials of Liberia and the Chinese Embassy with a pledge to uphold their original aspirations and move forward together towards shared prosperity.
Remarking at the ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu said the friendship between China and Liberia has stood the test of time, despite the twists and turns they encountered along the way.
The event provided a platform to reflect on the remarkable journey of China-Liberia relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1977, especially following the resumption of relations in 2003.
“Our journey together has been marked by progress and collaboration, laying a strong foundation for our future endeavors,” Ambassador Yin noted.
“From peacekeeping operations to infrastructure development, healthcare, and education, our partnership has brought tangible benefits to both nations,” Ambassador Yin Acknowledged.
The Chinese Ambassador highlighted the unwavering commitment of China to Liberia’s development.
“In the words of President Xi Jinping, ‘China will continue to stand by Liberia’s side as a sincere friend and reliable partner,” he added.
“The one-China principle serves as the cornerstone of our bilateral relations,” stated Ambassador Yin, underscoring the mutual respect and support for each other’s core interests.
“Liberia’s internal codification of the one-China principle exemplifies our shared commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he emphasized.
Ambassador Yin expressed optimism about the prospects of China-Liberia cooperation under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Boakai.
“We are committed to deepening engagement across various sectors, including through the Belt and Road Initiative and South-South cooperation,” he affirmed, outlining plans for mutual development and prosperity.
“As President Joseph Nyuma Boakai eloquently stated, ‘Our partnership with China is not just about the present; it is about securing a brighter future for generations to come,'” Ambassador Yin stressed.
He highlighted the long-term vision of collaboration involving the two countries.
Also speaking at the occasion, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia acknowledged the efforts of the Chinese government to Liberia since 1977.
Speaker Koffa mentioned that, he hopes to see a greater relationship from china that will help improve the economic growth in Liberia, especially agriculture.
He pleaded with the Chinese government in his remark to dive support and attention to the agriculture sector, especially now that there are increments in the prices of basic commodities in Liberia.
