Family members in Liberia of a young Liberian boy who resides in the US and attending a military cadet school in North Carolina, US say; “there is “credible fear” of persecution, abduction, torture, forceful initiation into the poro society in Grand Cape Mount County, and possible death if he is returned to Liberia”.
The family members who spoke on the guise of anonymity lament that the young Liberia lad in 2015 was rescued from the clutches of death, abduction, torture from other traditional family members who were about to initiate him in the traditional poro secret society in Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia.
“We fought with our lives to keep him away from dangers and he cannot be returned to Liberia where threats to his life are still viable. We are bitterly against our boy being initiated into the evil secret poro society and is dangerously an “abomination” rebuffing generational tradition”, one of the family members equipped.
According to family members, the boy who nicknamed “Nono” if returned to Liberia faces extremely dangerous and often turbulent environments and could even face. And even face torture, abuse, or murder if returned to Liberia.
It is concerning for these family members because they informed this paper “that the poro secret society kidnaps and initiates young boys and even lads through violent acts of hazing, and other unspeakable acts. And part of the reason the perpetrators do it is simply because it was done to them, “an eye for an eye.”
The family members who say they are against the continuation of this generational practice that entails burying virgins alive at the base of the cottonwood trees as an offer up of a “clean” sacrifice for new beginnings, and physically endanger the lives of thousands of young men.
According to the concerned family members, the poro society is evil for “Nono” to be initiated because it is also associated with cannibalism, believing that drinking the blood or consuming certain organs of another will bring power to he who does it. Members of these societies openly proclaim that they and/or their people are able perform curses, poison, torment, and murder their enemies with juju.
“Nono should not be involved with such evil. He should remain in the US to pursue education in safety and protection, one family member begs.
“These are evil things that are happening still today in the poro societies and other secret societies in Liberia and Nono cannot be initiated to further victimize others”, another family member decries.
Lastly, the family members say they are against the activities of the poro and sande society and boldly proclaim the truth. Their lives and the lives of their families are continually threatened for this and yet they will continue to speak out against such indisputable evils and protect Nono from being returned to Liberia.
“Nono is safe at boarding school at Oak Ridge Military Academy, North Carolina, USA, One family members inferred.
