MONROVIA: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has lifted quarantine it previously placed on the vicinity of the J. W. Pearson High School in Ganta, Nimba County. The Ministry took the decision Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Monrovia via a press statement.

The school was quarantined following the discovery on the school campus what appeared to be unexploded bombs, likely to have posed a risk of detonation on the school premises.

The Ministry said the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), and the National Police had responded swiftly and professionally.

Both AFL and LNP’s prompt intervention ensured the safe removal of the explosive devices, guaranteeing the safety of our students, staff, and the surrounding community.

“Today, we are pleased to announce that the quarantine at J.W. Pearson High School has been lifted. After comprehensive safety assessments and clearance from the AFL, we are confident that the school environment is now secured for the return of students and staff,” the statement disclosed.
MOE: “We understand the concern and disruption this incident has caused and appreciate the patience and cooperation of the entire school community during this critical period. The safety and security of our educational environments remain our top priority, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to protect our students and staff.”
J. W. Pearson was temporarily closed following the discovery of a suspicious explosive device on the school premises in Ganta City, Nimba County.
Minister of Education, at the time, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, directed that all students and staff remain off-campus until further notice to ensure their safety. The Liberian National Police and Military were notified to quickly assess the situation.
