MCC Police Chief Risks Lawsuit

MONROVIA: The Chairperson of the Jorkpen Town Community, Montserrado County District #8, Madam Louise H. Dennis, has threatened legal action against the Director of the Monrovia City Police, Col. G. Thomas Garwo, for allegedly intimidating and harassing her publicly.

Madam Dennis has submitted a formal complaint against the Col. Garwo to the Monrovia City Mayor, John Sharuk Siafa. A communication containing the complaint dated May 1, 2024.

According Chairperson Dennis, on April 20, 2024, she went to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) Charge of Quarters in response to a call made to her by her fellow community leader of the (“God Blessed You Community), on grounds that few residents of the community filed a complaint against him at the Monrovia City Corporation.

In the communication, she told Mayor Siafa that while at the Monrovia City Corporation Headquarters, Mr. Garwo deliberately violating her right by harassing and intimidating her.

“He sprinkled profanity on me which physically discomforted me amongst my friends, which is prohibited in any in any civilized society,” she told the Monrovia City Mayor.

“Having contended in such a form and manner, without following the due process of the law, is a serious violation of the Liberian Code of Conduct.
Mr. Garwo further instructed his body guards to drag me for detention without issuing me any writ of subpoena for crime that I may have committed under the Liberia law,” she pointed out.

Madam Dennis called on Monrovia City Major, John Sharuk Siafa, to invite Col. Garwo for investigation for intentionally violating her right as she has been a peaceful and law-abiding citizen.

She further told the City Mayor that Col. Garwo’s action, “publicly intimidating and harassing me unlawfully has deterred me from doing my work as a community leader.”

She has threatened to issue a lawsuit if the matter cannot reach a logical conclusion by the Mayor of the City of Monrovia.
“I remain humble and law abiding to honor your invitation to probe into the matter, she further informed the Monrovia City Mayor.

So far, Col. Garwo and Monrovia City Mayor have not commented on the complaint of Madam Dennis.
