MONROVIA: The Minister of Agriculture of Liberia, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, has begun an official visit to China at the invitation of China’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Leading a five-man delegation, Dr. Nuetah is set to hold discussions with his Chinese counterparts, exploring opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and strengthening diplomatic ties.
An Agriculture Ministry statement issued in Monrovia on Monday, under the signature of its Communication Director, Madam Comfort Wellfield, pointed out that during the five-day visit, the delegation will attend high-level meetings at Foreign Affairs and Agriculture Ministries and visit key agricultural research institutions and facilities to gain firsthand insights into the practices and technologies that have contributed to China’s agricultural success.
The statement noted that, they will visit the Agricultural Machinery and Engineering Laboratories at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences, the Luoyuan rice-fishery agricultural system, and the China Agricultural University.
According to the statement, the focus will be on sharing best practices, exploring technological advancements in agriculture, and identifying areas of collaboration that can yield mutual benefits.
Furthermore, the delegation will attend the opening ceremony of a one-month seminar on Agricultural technology and management for Liberia on June 20, 2024, in Beijing.
Dr. Nuetah underscored the importance of the visit, emphasizing that it presents a unique opportunity for Liberia to learn from China’s advanced farming technologies and extensive industry experience.
He highlighted the potential transformative impact of sharing best practices, exploring technological advancements, and identifying areas of collaboration.
“As Liberia strives to unlock the full potential of its agricultural resources, partnerships with countries like China will be instrumental in realizing these goals. Such collaborations could potentially revolutionize Liberia’s agricultural sector, ensuring food security, economic growth, employment opportunities, and poverty alleviation,” he emphasized.
The delegation, the statement stressed, comprises key officials from various ministries. It includes Mrs. Antoinette F. Dukuly, Deputy Minister for Administration; Mr. Francis F. B. Mulbah, Assistant Minister for Planning and Policy, Ministry of Agriculture; Mr. Dehpue Yenpea Zuo, Deputy Minister for economic management, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning; and Ms. Lovette Fahnbulleh, Secretary, Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.
Aligned with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST agenda, which prioritizes agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture is steadfast in its commitment to leveraging international partnerships.
The statement pointed that the ministry is dedicated to strengthening the agricultural sector, enhancing food security, and improving the standard of living.
