MONROVIA: In a bid to consolidate their partnership, the Management of the International Academy for Gender and Peace paid a courtesy visit to Professor Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to Nigeria and Acting President of the University of Liberia, at the Liberian Embassy in Abuja.
Led by Professor Tyoor Fredrick M. Terhemba, President of the International Academy for Gender and Peace, the delegation included Brigadier General Dr. Solomon Babatunde Kumapayi and Assistant Commandant General James Asanya Bassey.
The meeting aimed to solidify the collaboration between the two institutions, which began with a Memorandum of Understanding in March 2023.
The partnership seeks to offer postgraduate programs in Gender and Security Studies, aligning with the career demands of ECOWAS, the African Union Commission, national governments, and the United Nations System.
During the visit, the Academy presented textbooks on Gender and Security Studies to the Ambassador, announced the launch of M. Sc and Ph.D programs in September, and discussed the joint publication of the African Gender, Peace and Security Studies Review.
The need for a robust security management structure at the University and the importance of gender mainstreaming, including the consideration of a female candidate for the next University President, were also highlighted.
Ambassador Conteh expressed his gratitude for the visit and the support received, pledging his unwavering support for the successful implementation of the collaborative programs.
This partnership is expected to enhance gender and security studies in Africa, fostering a more peaceful and secure continent.
