MONROVIA: The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) has clarified that there is no conflict between former President George Weah and current President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah made this statement during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Minister Piah emphasized that what is reported as disputes between the two Liberian leaders are unfounded and urged the public to disregard such misinformation.
“Stop carrying fake news on social media or in newspapers, we need to respect our former leaders despite our political differences in Liberia,” he declared.
At the same time, Minister Piah also announced initiatives to support farmers, stating that machines would be provided to help bring their products to market.
He stressed that the focus should be on improving social services such as healthcare, infrastructure, education, and salaries for Liberians, rather than on political issues.
Additionally, Minister Piah mentioned that the Executive Lodge and the Presidential Lodge at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) would continue to provide clarity on information circulating on social media by politicians in Liberia.
At recent ECOWAS Heads of State summit held in Abuja, Nigeria, Parliamentarians of the regional body reported that political situation in Liberia remains stable under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
The MICAT Boss did not however say whether or not incumbent President Joseph N. Boakai and former President George Weah have spoken with each other since the current President’s induction in January 2024.
The ECOWAS report indicates that some members of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have been expressing concerns over relationship subsisting between the former President George Weah and current President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah.
