MoT Reduces Transportation Fares …In Monrovia and Its Vicinities

MONROVIA: The Liberian government, through the Ministry of Transportation (MoT), has reduced transportation fares for Monrovia and its environs.

Transport Minister Sirleaf R. Tyler, in a press conference held at the Transport Ministry on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, noted that, the reduction of the transportation fares comes after the government of Liberia recently reduced the price of petroleum products on the Liberian market.

The new fares from Jacob town to Central Monrovia which was previously LD$130.00, arbitrary fare LD$200.00, is now approved for LD$180.00; and the fare from Central Monrovia to Red-light, which was previously LD$140, arbitrary 250 is now approved for LD$180.

The Transport Ministry added that fare from Sinkor to Central Monrovia which was previously LD$50.00, arbitrary fare LD$70, is now approved for LD$30.00.

Minister Tyler explains that from Broad Street in Central Monrovia to 12 Street in Sinkor, which was previously LD$50.00, arbitrary fare LD$ 70.00, is now approved LD$30. Fare from Broad Street to Joe Bar in Paynesville City which was previously LD$120.00, arbitrary fare LD$250, is now LD$160.00.

He further said, the transportation fare from GSA Junction in Paynesville City which was previously LD$120.00, arbitrary fare LD$250, is now approved for LD$160.
Fare from Broad Street to 72 Junction, in Congo Town, which was previously LD$100, arbitrary fare LD$200.00, is now approved for $150.00, among other fares reduction.

The Transport Minister vowed that any commercial driver caught overcharging passengers outside of the government of Liberia’s approved fares will be penalized accordingly.

He advised all commuters and the public to report any violator(s) to the Transport Ministry or the nearest police station or traffic officer including the Transport Ministry inspectors.

According to him, any commercial driver caught overcharging passengers outside of the government of Liberia approved transportation fares will be required to pay US$100.00 for first offense, while second offense, he/she will pay US$ 200.00.
