MONROVIA: Arthur Siaka Massaquoi, Director General, has disclosed that, the Office of the Ombudsman is poised to be a key player in safeguarding the rights of citizens and maintaining public trust in government operations.
Speaking in an interview with a team of Journalists yesterday, August 14, 2024, Director Massaquoi noted that, the office of Ombudsman seeks to enhance government accountability and transparency,
According to him, the establishment of the Ombudsman office marks a pivotal moment in Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its governance framework.
The office is mandated to address public complaints against government agencies and officials, ensuring that citizens’ grievances are heard and resolved fairly.
He emphasized the importance of the Ombudsman in promoting justice, fairness, and transparency within the public sector.
Mr. Massaquoi noted that the office would serve as an essential bridge between the government and the people, fostering a culture of accountability.
He pointed out that, the Ombudsman is expected to play a critical role in mediating disputes between citizens and governmental bodies, ensuring that administrative practices align with the nation’s laws and values.
It can be recalled that, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. recently commissioned the Office of the Ombudsman, marking a significant milestone in Liberia’s quest for enhanced transparency and accountability in government.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including the Vice President, the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, Cabinet members, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.
