MONROVIA: Jerolinmek Mathew Piah, Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism has refuted claims by aggrieved civil servants that their dismissal was a result of political witch-hunt.
Addressing the Regular press briefing at MICAT, Thursday, August 15,2024, Minister Piah clarified that the action was taken against nine civil servants who used their offices for political battles against the government that they work for.
Minister Piah asserted that the dismissal of those civil servants was not wrong.
He stressed that they were investigated and removed from the government’s payroll.
According to him, in as much as freedom of speech is accepted by the Boakai’s administration, any person working in the public service that has dissatisfaction with the workings of their entities should discuss the matter amicably.
The INFO minister made it clear that the government of Liberia will not hesitate to remove any public servant who will allow political differences determine their work at their offices and insult the government on Facebook instead of being constructive of their criticism in the government.
Minister Piah explained that the civil servants who were blocked and removed from the government’s payroll were not only ghost workers, some of them took to their Facebook pages to insult government officials including president Joseph Boakai as means of expressing dissatisfaction of the CDC administration leaving power.
He added that those insults and reckless comments about the Boakai administration were done consistently while they work as civil servants in the same government.
