MONROVIA: Latest report from the state-owned University of Liberia suggests that the Director of the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation (KAICT), of UL, Prof. T. Debey Sayndee, has allegedly refused to re-submit the names and files of several students of the program for issuance of their final clearances for graduation.
According to the Report, an investigation was conducted by a special committee, headed by Madam Agnes Taylor, who was appointed Acting UL President, by Dr. Al Hassan Conteh. Madam Agnes Taylor has not commented on the report, confirming or denying that the issue has been investigated by her office.
However, it is alleged that the affected students have completed all of their required courses for graduation.
It is also claimed that of the 14 students who applied for graduation, Prof. T. Debey Sayndee, submitted only eight files. The report stated that Prof. Sayndee has not been submitting all of the students’ grades on their e-portals.
The report mentioned that due to the alleged delinquency on the part of Prof. Sayndee in up-loading students’ grades to their portals, all of the registered courses had automatically been placed in addendum files on the portals, making it difficult for the students to access grades on the portal.
It is also alleged that for the past three semesters, Director Sayndee has misplaced all of the files containing students’ grades as many of the students are yet to receive their grades for courses they have allegedly completed.
It is also claimed that all of the courses that were registered on the various portals by some of the students during the previous semesters could not be reflected on their ledgers because Director Sayndee did not post any of their grades to their portal on time.
The report revealed that 14 students’ files were worked on and submitted to the Director to be presented to the UL Faculty Senate for final clearance, but he allegedly refused to submit the files of six of the students.
It has also been gathered that the Director’s refusal to submit the students’ files is because they did not fill up a form that he requested them to fill-up sometimes ago.
It is also claimed that some of the students were able to access their addendum files through the help of the admission office on Fendell campus and no grades were uploaded by the director because he had allegedly misplaced all of the files containing students’ grades.
Speaking on the matter, the affected students disclosed that Director Sayndee told them that it is not the responsibility of his office to call students if they have issues with their grades.
When contacted for his reaction to the students’ claims, Prof. Sayndee said, he cannot speak on the matter, but referred this paper to the UL public relation office for comment on the issue.
However, the Head of University of Liberia Public Relation Office, Mr. Norris Tweh, could not be reached via his mobile phone for comment up to press time yesterday.
