The Government of Liberia has disclosed that the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration will be held in Grand Bassa County.
The celebration is expected to bring together local communities, stakeholders, and visitors for daylong activities including cultural exchange.
This year’s event promises to be a grand showcase of the region’s rich cultural tapestry and breathtaking natural landscapes, drawing attention to the importance of sustainable tourism practices and fostering a sense of peace and unity among participants.
The significance of World Tourism Day, an initiative established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, cannot be overstated, the GoL said.
Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Madam Kadiatu Konteh Brohiri, during the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, said since its inception in 1980, the annual observance on September 27 serves as a platform to underscore the multifaceted benefits of tourism, spanning social, cultural, political, and economic realms.
With this year’s global theme centered on “Tourism and Peace,” the spotlight is on the pivotal role tourism plays in promoting harmony, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development in Liberia and beyond.
Deputy Minister Brohiri, a key figure in the event’s organization, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming celebrations.
She emphasized the unique allure of Grand Bassa County’s landscapes, historical sites, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultural heritage.
Through series of engaging activities and events, the festivities aim to not only showcase the region’s tourism potential but also to underscore the transformative power of tourism in driving economic growth, fostering peace, and creating opportunities for local communities.
According to her, the 2024 World Tourism Day celebrations in Grand Bassa will underscore Liberia’s tourism potential and serve as a testament to how tourism can be a catalyst for peace, development, and economic growth.
