MONROVIA: The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), has begun distribution of beans, salt, cubes, clothes, blankets, etc., for at least 22,000 flood victims.
The distribution is being carried out for the remaining 22,000 persons who are not beneficiaries of its emergency cash transfer program.

The move is part of efforts to address the compelling needs of vulnerable communities affected by serious flooding in the most recent weeks, according to the NDMA.

Since June 28, serious flooding has ravaged many communities in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Sinoe and Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Nimba and Bomi Counties.

Over 48,000 persons have been affected, resulting in the death of a few, and thereby impeding the basic livelihood of the affected population.

It can be recalled that the NDMA, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), launched an emergency cash transfer to over 26,000 persons affected by recent flooding.

US$45.00 has been given to each household for a period of three months.

It is intended to help them recover from the impacts of the floods. The emergency cash transfer is currently in progress.

The food and non-food items comprising rice, oil, beans, salt, cubes, clothes, blankets, etc., are being distributed to the remaining 22,000 persons who are not beneficiaries of the emergency cash transfer.

This initiative started on Monday, September 30, 2024, with the official launch in the Bong Mines Bridge Community and will continue with several other communities across these affected counties.

Providing update during the launch, the Director of the Agency, Ansu Dolley, said the funding for the donation was given by the Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Finance And Development Planning.

According to him, the flooding crisis will be addressed collectively because the government is working on cleaning drainages and breaking down properties built in the water ways.

At the same time, the community chairman, John Massah, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the NDMA for responding to their needs.
