MONROVIA: The Director of Communication and Public Relations at the Ministry of Transport (MOT) Mr. Shadrach Brown has clarified that the MOT has exclusive responsibility for the daily operation and regulations of all transport related activities across Liberia.
He also clarified a recent statement attributed to the Inspector General of Police, Col. Gregory Colman, via a local radio talk show that a Lebanese company, known as Liberia Transport Management, has exclusive responsibility for the daily operation and regulations of all transport related activities across Liberia.
Address a news Conference on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Transport Ministry, Mr. Brown described Police Inspector General’s statement as unfortunate.
The Minister stated that act creating the Ministry of Transport indicates that all motor vehicle documents must continue to be processed exclusively through the Transport Ministry.
According to him, the August 23, 1987 Act establishing the Transport Ministry specially, section 37.3(A), clearly outlines the MOT Authority to administered, regulate, and implement transport laws, Insurance and Maritime across all modes of transport including land and Air.
He said since the Ministry was established, it has performed to the best of its ability, executing its polices.
He used the occasion to urge the public to adhere to these established protocols.
Mr. Brown pointed out that, while the 2016v police Act, Section 22.7 .2(A) (8) designates for the Liberia National Police with the enforcement of vehicle and traffic laws on the road, it does not grant the Police the authority to dictate which entity the public should engage for transport related services .
The Transport Ministry Director of Communication and Public Relations maintains that the Transport Ministry remains the sole authority over the processing of motor vehicle documents and regulations.
He encourages all motor vehicle owners and operators including banking institutions to continue doing business with the Transport Ministry.
He stressed that any changes in this process will only come through a direct presidential mandate from the Liberian leader.
