COMTUWA Calls for Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts

MONROVIA: The Secretary General of the Confederation of Mano River Sub-Regional Migration Free Trade Union of West Africa (COMTUWA), Mr. Jerry R.B. Duplaye, has disclosed that an international Trade Union, known as the World Organization for Workers (WOW), thinks conflicts should be addressed through unity and negations.

He said WOW believes that resolving any conflicts through unity and dialogue is the best approach.

He admonished all affiliate members of the World Organization for Workers to used peace, unity and dialog in resolving any conflict around the world.

Mr. Duplaye said the Confederation of Mano River Sub-Regional Migration Free Trade Union of West Africa (COMTUWA) is an affiliate of the World Organization for Workers (WOW).

He said since the formation of the Labor movement in Liberia from 1940 to 2024, it has not had sufficient civic education program to educate workers about unity and peace that can help to promote the development of the nation.

He made the statement over the weekend at the start of a daylong leadership training seminar organized by the Confederation of Mano River Sub-Regional Migration Free Trade Union of West Africa (COMTUWA). The training was held in the Japanese Freeway Iron Factory Community, in the Township of Gardnerville and sponsored by the World Organization For Workers (WOW).

According to him, since the labor movement is built upon the principle of solidarity, an important part of any union building program is to exchange ideals which can strengthen international bonds among trade unionists.

He noted that such exchange programs are tied to other programs, especially comprehensive training, conferences and education seminal.

He said the World Organization of Workers strives to protect and promote the interests of employees working in the sectors.

He also said the WOW wants to be an open trade union organization where members organizations feel secure at home.

Mr. Duplaye indicated that, the WOW takes seriously the improvement and development of the capacities of its member-organizations.

He noted that, WOW believes that trade union pluralism is essential and it considers subsidiarity important for the improvement of the livelihoods of the members of our affiliated trade union organizations.

Appealing to the gathering to be united, Mr. Duplaye disclosed that the World Organization for Workers (WOW) primary aim is to be a quality organization to which trade unions all over the world want to affiliate.

He disclosed that, Liberia is among other countries in the sub-region to benefit from education and other developmental projects under the auspices of the World Organization for Workers (WOW).
