MONROVIA: Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, Dean of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law of the University of Liberia has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia. He succeeds Cllr. Jonathan Massaquoi. The announcement was made by the Office of the President on Friday, November 1, 2024, following a thorough vetting process conducted by a designated committee.
Cllr. Barbu brings nearly two decades of extensive legal experience to his new role.
A respected public servant from Lofa County, he has previously served as Secretary General of the Liberia National Bar Association and Chairperson of the Law Reform Commission.
His contributions to key legislative initiatives include pivotal work on the Special War and Economic Crimes Tribunal.
In addition to his legal practice, Dr. Barbu is an Associate Professor at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia (UL), where he has spent over a decade teaching and authoring foundational texts in various legal disciplines.
His expertise has also been sought by numerous government bodies, where he has played a vital role in shaping Liberia’s legal framework.
The appointment is expected to reinforce the court’s commitment to addressing issues of war and economic crimes, as Cllr. Barbu’s background aligns with the court’s objectives.
