MONROVIA: The Acting President, Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, has addressed the concerns of the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA), who recently called for the appointment of a new president.
The urgency stemmed from the expiration of Conteh’s mandate, which led to questions about the university’s leadership and direction.
In his response, Dr. Conteh sought to reassure the university community that his commitment to the institution remains steadfast and that he is focused on ensuring a smooth transition.
Dr. Conteh highlighted the significant strides made by the Interim Management Team (IMT) during his tenure.
He explained that the IMT has been diligently working on critical tasks set forth by the visitor, including the completion of an extensive audit and the assessment of the university’s physical infrastructure.
These tasks are not just administrative formalities; they are foundational to the future growth and sustainability of our institution, he stated.
By prioritizing these initiatives, Dr. Conteh believes the university can better position itself for the challenges ahead.
As part of his message, Dr. Conteh emphasized the importance of collaboration and open dialogue within the university community. He invited faculty, staffs, and students to engage in constructive discussions about the university’s future.
“We must come together to address our challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead,” he urged.
The Acting President’s call for unity reflects a broader vision for the university, one that seeks to foster a culture of inclusivity and shared responsibility.
In light of the ongoing leadership transition, Dr. Conteh reassured the community that the search for a new President has been completed, ensuring that the university is on track to welcome new leadership in due time.
However, he stressed that rushing into this transition could undermine the progress already made. “Let us take the necessary time to ensure that we are handing over a robust and well-functioning institution,” he concluded.
As the university stands at this crossroads, the commitment of Dr. Conteh and the IMT to complete these essential tasks before the new leadership takes over is a testament to their dedication to the University of Liberia’s legacy.
