Liberia Launches US$25m Scholarship Grant … For 250 Students to Study in the U.S.

MONROVIA: In an effort to build the human capacity of young people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to launch a significant $25 million scholarship grant aimed at providing opportunities for 250 Liberian students to pursue their Master’s Degrees in various disciplines in the United States.

This initiative is part of the government of Liberia’s commitment to ensuring that students receive quality education and can contribute effectively to nation-building.

During a recent press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beyslow Nyanti revealed that this scholarship program is designed to empower the next generation of leaders and professionals in Liberia.

According to her By studying abroad, these students will gain valuable knowledge and skills that can be applied to address the pressing challenges facing the country.

She asserted that the government believes that investing in education is crucial for the development of a skilled workforce that can drive progress and innovation in Liberia.

In addition to the scholarship announcement, Minister Nyanti disclosed that the country is expecting a loan of $625 million from donor partners.

This funding is aimed at bolstering the government’s efforts to tackle key national issues, which include infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.

The Minister also addressed concerns regarding the Foreign Ministry’s issuance of passports to foreigners, clarifying that this practice aligns with international norms and is essential for facilitating diplomatic functions.

As the scholarship program rolls out, it is expected to generate excitement among students and families across Liberia, providing hope for a brighter future and the potential for transformative change within the nation.

Meanwhile Minister Nyanti disclosed that she and her team are in close consultation with the American Embassy near Monrovia to ensure that getting visa for the scholarships will not be difficult for the students.
