MONROVIA: In a move signaling his commitment to ensuring accountability within Liberia’s public institutions, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended the Commissioner-General of the Liberia Immigration Services (LIS), Stephen H. J. Zargo, for improper handling of official duties.
Effective immediately, Commissioner Zargo is suspended without pay for a period of three months pending investigation.
During this time, the suspended Immigration boss is required to turn over all official materials, assets, and office accessories to the Deputy Commissioner-General for Administration, Mr. Elijah F. Rufus, who will assume leadership of the LIS in his absence.
The suspension underscores President Boakai’s resolve to maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity among public servants.
In a statement issued by the Presidential Press Secretary, Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, the President reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the rule of law and promoting transparency across government institutions.
“This action reflects the President’s commitment to ensuring that public offices operate with the utmost professionalism and accountability,” Fofana said. “It also serves as a reminder to all government officials of their responsibility to serve with honor, diligence, and respect for the rule of law.”
The suspension of Commissioner Zargo comes amid ongoing efforts by the Boakai administration to instill greater integrity and professionalism within the government.
