MONROVIA: To enhance the quality of higher education in Liberia, Professor Edward Lama Wonkeryor, Executive Director of the National Commission on Higher Education, has announced a nationwide inspection exercise.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing, Thursday, December 5, 2024, he said the endeavor aims to assess the standards of universities and colleges across the country, highlighting the essential role that higher education plays in national development.

The inspection will involve trained evaluators visiting various institutions to examine critical aspects such as academic programs, governance, infrastructure, and financial management.

Professor Wonkeryor emphasized that the primary objectives of this exercise are to identify strengths and weaknesses within the educational system, promote transparency and accountability, and inform strategic actions for improvement.

He reassured the public that the process would be conducted fairly and professionally, focusing on uplifting the educational landscape rather than casting blame.

Aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda, which aims to position Liberia as a center for academic excellence in the region, this initiative represents a significant step forward.

Professor Wonkeryor urged institutions to view the inspection as an opportunity for growth, encouraging students and faculty to engage actively in the process

As Liberia strives for educational excellence, this nationwide inspection is a crucial move toward ensuring that every student receives a quality education that equips them for meaningful contributions to society.
