Hope Amidst the Flood …NDMA and Save the Children Unite to Support Vulnerable Families

MONROVIA: In a remarkable display of solidarity and commitment to humanitarian relief, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has partnered with UK-based Save the Children International (SCI) to launch a joint recovery initiative aimed at assisting families severely affected by flooding in Bong and River Cess Counties.

The initiative, is set to provide essential support to approximately 1,600 individuals, including 960 children, across 320 households.

The intervention focuses on delivering critical resources to address urgent needs in education, hygiene, and food security.

According to the NDMA, a total of 220 households in Bong County, representing around 1,100 individuals (660 children) will receive vital assistance, while 100 households in River Cess County, comprising approximately 500 individuals (300 children), are included in this program.

Each affected child will be equipped with a school kit containing essential educational materials such as bags, notebooks, writing utensils, and art supplies, enabling them to continue their learning despite the disruptions caused by the floods.

Additionally, 320 hygiene kits filled with sanitary products, soap, toothbrushes, and other personal care items will be distributed to promote proper sanitation and reduce health risks, particularly for marginalized girls and women who are disproportionately affected in such crises.

Furthermore, the initiative includes the distribution of food baskets containing essential items like 25kg of rice and 5 liters of vegetable oil, ensuring that families have access to basic nutrition during this challenging time.

The launch of this humanitarian effort was marked by a formal presentation led by Save the Children’s Humanitarian Lead, Madam Zinnah Cargeor, and received by NDMA’s Director for Loss, Damage, and Recovery, Madam Asatu Z. Konneh. Bong County Superintendent Hon. Hawa Norris officiated the distribution ceremony, which began today and is expected to conclude by Friday.

This joint effort stems from a Memorandum of Understanding between NDMA and SCI, reflecting a shared commitment to uphold the principles of partnership and collaboration in addressing the pressing needs of communities affected by natural disasters. As the distribution of relief items unfolds, both organizations is expected to end Today, Friday December 13,2024 remain dedicated to supporting the recovery and resilience of the flood-impacted families in Liberia.
